Q0. How do I install SmallBasic? – A0. Click the ‘Kids’ link on the main ‘Teaching Kids Programming’ site menu and follow the directions on that page.

1. I installed Small Basic, but it won’t run, what could be wrong? 1. You must have Windows and .NET framework 3.5 service pack 1 or better (Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7) installed.
2. I can open SmallBasic, but I can’t see the ‘Tortoise‘ object, where is it? 2. You must have SmallBasic v 0.9 or greater and the SmallBasic extensions (from Codeplex) installed
3. When I try to run my SmallBasic program I get a big red X, why? 3. This is a known bug, just save you file to the hard drive and try again to execute your program.
4. Why does SmallBasic freeze for up to 10 seconds the first time I open it? 4. This is a known bug.
5. When is the next live event? Where is it? Who can teach me more? 5. Llewellyn and Lynn are NOT currently teaching any open-enrollment events (we teach private courses for selected schools at this time only). We mostly are working to create new course ware and resources which are designed to train teachers.If a teacher or parent wishes to run a live event, please have them contact us for teacher training.  Also be sure to check out the ‘TEACHERS’ section of this website for teacher-training resources.
6. I am stuck on a recipe (one or more lines), are there answers anywhere? 6. Yes we have a ‘cheat sheet’ for each recipe in the cheat sheet section of recipe page.  Import the ID for the cheat sheet into Small Basic to see the answer key (you must scroll down).
7. I want to show this to my parent or teacher, is there a information for them somewhere? (how to teach) 7. Yes, have them check out the ‘TEACHERS’ section of TKP
8. I wrote a cool SmallBasic program, how can I share it? 8. We LOVE to see student work. Publish your program and email us the ID, better yet make a short YouTube of your program and send us this link, we’d love to post student work on our TKP site.
9. What does ‘Graduate’ (SmallBasic menu) do? 9. ‘Graduate’ translates SmallBasic into Visual Basic.NET. You must have a version of Visual Studio 2008 or greater installed.  This can include the FREE version of Visual Studio (Express).  Also if you are a full-time student, you may be eligible to download a FREE, full version of Visual Studio using the Microsoft Dreamspark program.
